Sidemount Recreational Course

Sidemount Diving in Central Florida

What is the PADI Sidemount Recreational Course?

The PADI Sidemount Diver course is designed to introduce recreational divers to scuba diving with two tanks mounted on their sides instead of one on the back. This configuration offers several advantages, including improved comfort, streamlining, and gas management. Through a combination of online learning, pool sessions, and open water dives, the course teaches divers how to properly configure and use sidemount equipment, perform buoyancy checks and trim adjustments, and manage gas supplies while wearing two tanks. Earning this certification allows divers to experience the benefits of sidemount diving and explore the underwater world with greater comfort and efficiency.

Skills: What Are the Learning Objectives?

Through a series of confined water exercises, students will learn how to properly assemble and adjust sidemount equipment, perform entries and exits while wearing the gear, and achieve neutral buoyancy using flutter and frog kicks. The course also emphasizes gas management, including switching between second stage regulators and responding to simulated emergencies such as out-of-gas scenarios or failed equipment. Divers will practice buoyancy control, swimming techniques, and safety stops to ensure a comfortable and controlled dive experience.

After that the student will complete three open water dives over the course of the day to complete the certification course!

For those pursuing their Advanced Open Water Diver certification, this course qualifies as an Adventure Dive so make sure to ask your instructor on how to earn this credit!
